Treatment Before After
What is Cosmetic Acupuncture?
Cosmetic Acupuncture, which has been practiced in China and other Asian countries for centuries and started to become popular in the United States for decades, is a natural method for facial rejuvenation. As acupuncture done for general health and specific conditions, cosmetic acupuncture is using tiny needles on specific points on the face and body, to revitalize the skin, reduce the signs of aging, enhance beauty, preserve a youthful appearance and support a healthy complexion!
Benefits of Cosmetic Acupuncture
You will not only look younger, but also feel younger!
How Does Cosmetic Acupuncture Work?
If you are aging in a way that looks and feels unhealthy, it is possible that there is a fundamental, constitutional imbalance. You will feel and look more radiant if your balance is restored. Cosmetic Acupuncture can promote the flow of blood and Qi through out the body and bring your balance back. On a physiological level, acupuncture has been reported to improve blood circulation throughout the body. Increased blood flow can help to bright skin color and strength muscle tone that can pull the skin tight and wrinkles flattened. The local insertion of needles into the superficial layers of the skin has also been shown to increase collagen production in the local area providing the skin greater elasticity and a more youthful appearance.
How many treatments are needed?
A course of treatment is 10 sessions, twice a week for five weeks. Follow-up maintenance treatments can be done once a month or once every season depending on the reaction of the patient. For some difficult cases, for example if the patient is older with deeper lines, they may need to repeat another 10 sessions.
How long is each treatment?
Each treatment is around 1 hour long. The initial consultation typically is 20 minutes.
What do and do not for the treatment?
What can I expect in a treatment?
Cosmetic Acupuncture treatments are extremely relaxing. Small fine needles are gently inserted into the face and body and are left in for 30 minutes as the patient relaxes in a comfortable dim light room with relaxing music to relieve the stress that is so prominent in our daily lives. Cosmetic acupuncture not only consists of facial rejuvenation but also overall restoration. If a patient has other complaints such as stress, insomnia, fatigue, acute or chronic pain, digestive problems, etc., these symptoms will be addressed in the same session and specific points are chosen accordingly.
Does Cosmetic Acupuncture hurt?
The answer is no. The needles used in cosmetic acupuncture are extremely thin and are inserted into the skin superficially. The most common feelings are very slight pinching in sensitive areas such as the upper lip and under the eyes but it shouldn't be uncomfortable.
Are the needles sterile?
Yes. Needles are sterile and used only one time.
How long does the effect last?
Typically, results last from 3 to 5 years after a course of 10 treatments. Each patient will be different from others, but usually each patient will need maintenance treatments once per month or once per season. Cosmetic Acupuncture diminishes the fine lines and prevents the skin from aging.
Will my insurance cover the cost?
Please call your insurance company to make sure if you have this benefit. We will help you to file the documents to obtain your reimbursement.
Is everyone a candidate for Cosmetic Acupuncture?
No. If a patient has the following disorders, they will not be treated with Cosmetic Acupuncture:
-Haemophiliacs
-Pacemakers
-High Blood Pressure
-Diabetes
-Severe Migraines
-Former plastic surgery
-Pregnant Women
What if I've had Botox?
Cosmetic Acupuncture is recommended for patients who have previously had botox injections in the face. Cosmetic Acupuncture keeps the botox effective for a longer period of time and most people find they only need to upkeep the botox every 8 to 12 months rather than every 3 to 6 months!
